Welcome to my cyber-space. My name is Cory Knobel, and I am an assistant adjunct professor of Informatics in the Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine. I’m also the Executive Director of the EVOKE Lab & Studio, where we explore new modes of scholarly communication – the social, cultural, and technological aspects of representing emerging forms of knowledge.
My own intellectual work is fundamentally concerned with the ways in which technology allows us to explore the really big questions – What is the nature of Being? How do we know what we know? What are the things of the world and how do they relate to each other? I suppose this makes me a philosopher of sorts, but I also have a fascination with technical things – computers, cameras, games, musical instruments, fountain pens, and plenty of other stuff – and with sociotechnical systems and infrastructures.
