Welcome to my cyber-space. My name is Cory Knobel, and I am an assistant adjunct professor of Informatics in the Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine. I’m also the Director of Technology for the Values in Design Lab, where we explore and design new technologies that start with human and social values, and then progress to technical concerns.
My own intellectual work is fundamentally concerned with the ways in which technology allows us to answer the really big questions – What is the nature of Being? How do we know what we know? What are the things of the world and how do they relate to each other? I suppose this makes me a philosopher of sorts, but I also have a fascination with technical things – computers, cameras, games, musical instruments, fountain pens, and plenty of other stuff – and with sociotechnical systems and infrastructures.
